Terms
By using DanceSeekers (browsing, signing in, submitting an event, or claiming a listing) you're agreeing to these terms. Plain English version below.
Use of the site
DanceSeekers lists publicly-available dance events for personal use. Browse them, save them, share them. If a date or detail matters, confirm with the organizer's own page before driving — events can change without us knowing.
Accounts
You can use most of DanceSeekers without an account. If you sign in (via the magic-link flow), you're responsible for keeping your email account secure — anyone with access to your inbox could sign in as you.
We may suspend or remove accounts that abuse the site (spam, scraping, impersonating organizers, harassing other users). We'll usually warn first.
Organizers can give other people access to manage their organizer account (a co-organizer or helper). If you add someone, you're responsible for who you grant access to and what they do with it. Owners can change roles or remove people anytime. Only owners can connect payouts, sell tickets, or issue refunds.
Event listings
DanceSeekers summarizes factual event details from public sources and organizer submissions. We do our best to keep the data accurate, but organizers remain responsible for their own events, pricing, schedules, and policies. If something's wrong, use the report-an-update form.
Tickets & payments
Some organizers sell tickets directly through DanceSeekers. When they do, a few things apply:
- Who you're buying from. The organizer is the seller and merchant of record. We provide the listing and the checkout, but the ticket is a contract between you and the organizer — DanceSeekers is not the event host and is not a party to the sale.
- Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. Organizers connect their own Stripe account, and Stripe handles identity verification, banking, payouts, and any tax forms. DanceSeekers never stores your card details and never holds your money — it goes straight to the organizer.
- Fees. The organizer sets the ticket price and receives it in full. Buyers pay a single service fee (currently 5% plus $0.75 per ticket) on top of the price, shown clearly at checkout before you pay. The fee may change; the amount you'll pay is always displayed before you purchase.
- Refunds.Whether your ticket price can be refunded is set by the organizer's own refund policy, shown at checkout before you pay. Refunds are issued by the organizer; if you need one, contact them. The DanceSeekers service fee is non-refundable.
- Cancellations. If an organizer cancels an event, they are responsible for refunding ticket holders. An organizer can choose to return the full amount, but the DanceSeekers service fee is non-refundable. We can help facilitate, but we are not liable for an organizer's failure to hold an event or issue a refund.
- Disputes & taxes. As merchant of record, the organizer handles chargebacks and disputes through Stripe and is responsible for any taxes owed on ticket sales. Stripe issues tax forms (such as a 1099-K) where required.
- Our role.DanceSeekers facilitates the listing and checkout. We don't guarantee that any event will take place or its quality, and we're not responsible for disputes between buyers and organizers.
Organizer submissions & claims
When you submit an event or claim a listing, you confirm:
- You have the right to share the information you're submitting
- DanceSeekers can display the factual details (dates, times, venue, cost, style) on the public site
- You're not impersonating someone else
- You own or have permission to use any images you upload (logos, cover photos, gallery images, flyers)
You keep ownership of any content you submit (photos, descriptions, flyers if you upload them). You grant DanceSeekers a non-exclusive, revocable license to display that content on the site for as long as the listing is live. Tell us anytime to remove something you uploaded and we will, within 7 days.
Removal & takedown
If you're an organizer and want a listing corrected or removed, email hello@danceseekers.com or use the report-an-update form. Removal requests from the listed organizer are honored within 7 days, no questions asked.
For copyright concerns (your photo or flyer is being used without permission), email us with the URL and we'll remove it promptly.
Sourcing
We list event details that are already public — dates, venues, styles, costs. We don't scrape private content, members-only groups, or paid mailing lists. Every listing links back to the organizer's official source.
No bulk scraping of DanceSeekers
You can browse, save, and share individual events freely. Automated bulk scraping or republishing of the DanceSeekers event database is not permitted. If you're an organizer or partner who wants a data export, just email us.
Other people's content
DanceSeekers may link to public organizer pages, venue pages, and ticketing pages. We don't claim ownership of organizer names, venue names, logos, or other third-party trademarks — they belong to their respective owners.
No warranty
DanceSeekers provides event information “as is” and “as available.” We do our best to verify, but we make no guarantees — express or implied — about accuracy, completeness, availability, or fitness for any particular night. You're responsible for confirming details that matter to you with the organizer before relying on them.
Events are physical activity — you take part at your own risk
Social dancing is a physical activity, and attending a class, social, or festival carries inherent risks, including injury. DanceSeekers does not run, host, staff, inspect, or supervise any event or venue listed here — those belong to the organizers and venue owners. When you attend an event you found through DanceSeekers, you do so voluntarily and assume those risks yourself. Any injury, loss, or damage at an event is the responsibility of the organizer, the venue, or you — not DanceSeekers.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law:
- DanceSeekers and its operators aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or missed opportunities, arising out of your use of the site or your attendance at any event.
- We aren't liable for missed events, schedule or venue changes, cancellations, the conduct or content of organizers or other users, or anything that happens at an event.
- Our total liability to you for any claim relating to DanceSeekers is capped at the greater of (a) the total service fees you paid DanceSeekers in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) US $100.
Some places don't allow these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Indemnification
If you're an organizer — or you submit or claim listings, sell tickets, or upload content — you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless DanceSeekers and its operators from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of: your events; the content, images, or information you submit; your ticket sales, pricing, or refunds; your conduct toward attendees or other users; or your breach of these terms or of any law or third-party right.
Disputes between users and organizers
DanceSeekers connects dancers with organizers and venues — we're not a party to what happens between you. Any dispute you have with an organizer, a venue, or another user is between you and them, and you release DanceSeekers from claims of every kind arising out of those disputes.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be highlighted somewhere on the site for at least a week.
Resolving disputes with us
We'd always rather sort things out directly, so email us first and we'll try to resolve it. If we can't, you and DanceSeekers agree that any dispute relating to these terms or the site will be settled by binding individual arbitration — not in court and not as a class action — except that either side may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court, and either side may ask a court to stop misuse of the site or our intellectual property.
Governing law
DanceSeekers operates from Michigan, USA. These terms, and any dispute relating to them or to the site, are governed by Michigan law, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
